Why do you build in WordPress?
Hand wrapped around giant WordPress logo

Why WordPress? Good question! It has been estimated that roughly 40% of all websites on the internet use WordPress. WordPress is highly adaptable and customizable, and makes it easy to add or update your content. It is affordable (open source), flexible, works great with 3rd-party tools and follows accessbility standards. WordPress makes SEO easier, loads quickly, and is mobile responsive.

What is responsive web design?

Responsive web design, or a site that is mobile responsive means the site will adapt to fit the size of the device it is being viewed on, whether it is a desktop monitor, laptop, tablet or smart phone. For more detailed information on responsive web design, check out this article from Vangie Beal: Responsive Web Design

How long will it take to build my website?

Typically, a build can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on a number of factors. The size of your site, availability of content (text, images, videos, etc), and other requirements specific to your site, such as ecommerce and email capabilities are all factors.

What domain should I choose?

Chose a domain name that is simply and easy to remember. The most well-known and popular domain for for-profit businesses is .com. Because of its popularity, you may have a hard time coming up with a suitable .com domain for your business. Alternatives include .net (often associated with web-based applications and services), .org (for non-profit organizations), .co (for companies, corporations, commercial ventures), or .us (reserved to citizens and entities in the U.S.) Additionally, there are more than 1,500 other TLDs available. Here’s a great article from web.com about TLDs (top level domains).

How many pages does a typical website have?

The size and number of pages on every website varies, because every business is unique. Factors include the type and complexity of your business, the number of products and services offered, and the amount of interaction with your visitors, to name a few. Your site might benefit from a simple 5-page site, or require a larger and more comprehensive site, possibly with ecommerce, depending on the complexity of your operation. Check out our Web Design Packages.

Where can I find high-quality photos for my website?

Many images you see on the internet are copyrighted, which is a form of legal protection automatically given to the creator as soon as the image is made. This means the creator of the image must be recognized and, in most cases, compensated, for the use of their image. You do not want to use someone else’s image without their permission. For more information, check out this article on pixsy.com: How to Verify an Image & identify the Copyright Source. Alternatively, here are three great sources that offer many high quality images that are free to use:

  • Pixabay
  • Pexels
  • Unsplash

Will my website be search engine friendly?

All of my sites are built with page speed and SEO (search engine optimization) in mind. Just remember, its a good idea to have your site re-evaluated from time to time, as search engines frequently alter their algorithms.

Can I update my Website any time?

Absolutely! Once your site is built, it is yours to fine-tune and expand as you wish. My site builds including basic WordPress training so you can hit the ground running! If that’s not your thing, check out our Hosting & Maintenance Packages.

Why Does my Site Need Regular Maintenance?

Once your site is built, it must be maintained. This includes scanning for SEO, speed testing, and keeping all of the build components updated. This housekeeping will help to keep your site secure, and your customers happy. We offer premium care packages for just this reason, to take the burden off our customers. For more detailed information, check out our Hosting & Maintenance Packages.

What happens after an audit on my current website?

Once the audit has been completed, you will receive a report of my findings and recommendations. I would be happy to partner with you to fine-tune your existing site, or if you prefer you may take the report to another developer. No pressure!
